Toplus Yoga Mat: Review

Hey friends! I’m here with another yoga mat review. TOPLUS was kind enough to gift me one of their yoga mats and I’m happy to share my thoughts. Thanks, y’all!

TOPLUS is a fitness brand that primarily sells yoga mats. You can find the mat I’m reviewing here in the “Professional Yoga Mat” section (fancy.) They also provide more basic mats, yoga mats for kids, and suede yoga mats. The suede yoga mats personally caught my eye, but let’s just focus on the mat at hand. (Or rather, at my feet.)

TOPLUS Yoga Mat Review: First Impressions

I was pleased to get this bright and cheery orange yoga mat (TOPLUS offers 10 different colors.) It’s made in China, which is something I just wanted to disclose. The mat also came with a cute little towel, which won’t be super helpful in yoga’s hottest classes, but a nice gesture nonetheless.

TOPLUS mats advertise four great features:

  • Eco-friendly TPE material
  • Comfortable and resilient
  • Skid-proof and sweat-proof
  • Hygienic and easy to clean

I wanted to break all of these sections down because they’re pretty much what I look for in a yoga mat: eco-friendly, comfortable, non-slip, and easy to maintain. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the TOPLUS yoga mat, but in the first few days of its use, I’m impressed.

TOPLUS Yoga Mat: Eco-friendly TPE material

Ah, TPE. If you’ve read my review on the Gaiam Cork Yoga Mat, you’ll know that I’m not so sure about TPE. I did a bit more digging this time around to see exactly what this stuff was. TPE (a mix of plastic and rubber, essentially) is certainly safer than PVC, with the potential to be recycled. It is often made of out recycled materials too. TPE offers a decent grip and doesn’t have that “new car smell” when you first open it. (I appreciated that.) But it’s still a relatively new material in the yoga and fitness world, so there isn’t a lot of information on it that’s not shared by yogablog.notscienceblog.com. If you have any thoughts on TPE, please let me know in the comments. (Or send me a message on Instagram!) I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Comfortable And Resilient

Although I was a bit confused by the texture at first, I’ve grown to like it. The mat is light, weighing less than 2.5 pounds. The TPE surface feels like a lighter version of the tiles you would use in gym class. Lighter than I expected Even though it’s not the thickest mat in town, my knees still felt supported. (I first tried out the mat on my carpet, then moved to the vinyl flooring where I film most of my yoga videos. Feels nice.)

Skid-proof and Sweat-Proof

Let’s talk about the grip of this mat. I wouldn’t say it’s “sticky,” but it is grippy. I may amend my thoughts when I get back to hot and sweaty yoga in a studio, but dare I say I think it will serve me better than the cork mat I have? Much like the cork mat, I would be hesitant to leave it in a hot car for a period of time. Other than that, it seems suitable for all types of classes.

Hygienic and Easy to Clean

Some yoga mats require special cleaner or have strict rules for cleaning. All you need with this mat is a rag and some soapy water. Easy!

Do I Recommend the TOPLUS Yoga Mat?

This mat is $41 online, similar in price to other mats that aren’t “super fancy” or available at Target. (No shade to Target, but it’s always just the first store that comes up in my mind.) If you’re looking for more cushion than a cork mat but still want a good grip, I would try it out for yourself. The website says that you can return the mat (undamaged) in the first 30 days and get a full refund (but you still have to pay shipping costs.) Why not, right?
